Austin's Neighborhood Shop

Handmade with Heart,
Found Right Here.

The Hearth & Hound is Austin's coziest little shop for local crafts, handmade soaps, and seasonal baked goods made by the makers who live right in your neighborhood.

Every purchase supports a real person, a real story, and a community that believes in showing up for one another.

Our Story

A Shop Built on Community

Hi, I'm Megan Torres. I opened The Hearth & Hound because I kept watching incredible local makers struggle to find a place to share their work. Austin is overflowing with talented people β€” potters and candlemakers, soap crafters and weekend bakers β€” and they deserved a home. So I made one. A little shop where neighbors could walk in and walk out with something genuinely made by someone they might bump into at the farmers market.

Our mission has always been simple: keep money in the neighborhood. Every item on our shelves was made within the Austin community by an independent maker. We don't stock mass-produced goods, and we never will. When you spend ten dollars here, that ten dollars goes to a real person with a real craft and a real story.

We believe that a shop should feel like a visit, not a transaction. That's why we keep the shelves thoughtfully curated, the space warm and unhurried, and the conversation honest. Our regulars know us by name β€” and we know theirs. That kind of relationship is worth more to us than any marketing campaign.

The name? "Hearth" for the warmth we want every customer to feel, and "Hound" for the loyal, faithful spirit of community. We're not going anywhere. We'll be right here in Austin, showing up for our makers and our neighbors, season after season.

"I discovered The Hearth & Hound after moving to the South Congress neighborhood and it immediately became my go-to for gifts. The lavender soap is extraordinary β€” I've given it to three friends and they all asked where I got it. Megan always remembers my name when I walk in, which means more than she probably knows."

"We buy the Friday baked goods box almost every week. My kids lose their minds over the brown butter pecan cookies and honestly, so do I. There's something really special about knowing exactly who baked what you're eating. We feel good about every purchase we make here β€” it's all going back to real people."

"I make ceramics and Megan was one of the first people to believe in my work enough to carry it in her shop. But beyond being a maker here, I'm also a customer β€” the macramΓ© pieces and body butter are staples in my home. This shop is the heart of our little block and I genuinely can't imagine the neighborhood without it."
